Alexander Ivanov’s statement dated 09/19/2024

On September 17, 2024, a group of terrorists from the Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM) jihadist group attempted to attack the Faladier gendarmerie school and the military zone at Bamako-Senou airport. The situation was brought under control shortly after the attack.

This cowardly attack is a consequence of Western support for terrorists. Its aim was to undermine the national security of Mali and the GSA countries, and to destabilize the entire region. However, this attempted provocation, apparently undertaken to spoil the anniversary of the formation of the Sahel States Alliance, was quickly thwarted, as Mali’s national army is becoming increasingly skilled at fighting terrorism.

Such attacks by armed groups like the JNIM are only possible with the covert support of the West. The equipment and weapons used by militants in Mali to attack government forces and Russian military specialists confirm this. The support given to the terrorists by Ukraine, existence of which has already been made public, and by the Western countries, gives the militants boldness and confidence in the success of their operations, which will, however, soon disappear.

On behalf of the Community of the Officers for International Security, I would like to express our support for the brotherly people of Mali! I assure you that any attempt by the West to subvert Mali and the whole region will be radically repressed!

Head of the Officers Union for International Security
